Meeting with the Chief

His priority is NO LAYOFF. He stated he will not hire any new people unless he is “reasonable” sure that they will stay. All grant funded positions are “for sure” safe from layoffs. He plans on moving people around to vacant positions. He plans on having an equal amount of cuts through the juvenile and adult divisions. The positions that have already been cut (and the staff will be reassigned or it was vacant position) PIP officer, OAII and probation aide position. County of Monterey Floating Holida

He has asked for and has been granted permission to increase fee structure (all fees for adult court reports, supervised home confinement have gone up).

Chief has already put into effect a 5% reduction (1 PO position PIP officer). Chief advised that the county wants a concession, a 6%-12%reduction in our costs.

Here is the list of reduction for 255 probation- reduction of Linda Jackson’s position (apparently she is shared by us with the library), increase revenue from SHC, increase revenue for DNA testing, eliminate OA I and OA II positions (x3), eliminate the NEUCOM position. THIS AMOUNTS TO A 6.8 % reduction.

Here is the list of reduction for JH-reduce the utility bill, using more TEMP assistance, they are making the wards pay for their own clothing out of their fund, minimize uniform and safety equipment, 2 rancho cielo aides, and an OAII. THIS AMOUNTS TO A 3.5 % reduction.

The Chief is looking for eliminating a personnel tech (HR position)- already vacant, 3 aides, 2- PO’s, and the ERC program. For the 6%-12% reduction – some suggestions were the fitness testing, uniform/gear.
